Yvonne Selina Weekes was born in Britain to Montserratian parents and currently resides in Barbados. She is an educator, actress, former Director of Culture (Montserrat), writer and Theatre Director with over 25 years experience. She was first published in Charting the Journey (Sheba Feminist,UK) in 1988 and her writing has appeared in a number of anthologies including Poui VI (UWI Literary Annual); The Hole (Foundation Publishing); Bazaar (Writers Inc Barbados) and Stories from Blue Latitudes: Caribbean Women Writers at Home and Abroad (Seal Press, U.S). Her memoir Volcano won the Frank Collymore Award in 2004 and was published by Peepal Tree Press, UK (2006).

Yvonne uses her writing as an advocate for behavior change in the fight against HIV and AIDS producing theatrical performances for agencies such as the AIDS Foundation of Barbados. Her first play Blue Soap, play was staged in Trinidad, Tobago and Barbados in 2007 and will be released in a new anthology of plays by Caribbean women later this year. Yvonne is currently the head of the Performing Arts Department at the Barbados Community College.
